Access research capability in our 3rd level sector
National institutes and facilities of scale that receive recurrent funding from the Irish Government to carry out research aligned to the national research prioritisation strategy. Institutes provide a gateway for industry and academia to access expertise and capabilities in Ireland including research, access to testbed facilities, training solutions and large items of research equipment.
Science Foundation Ireland launched the Research Centres Programme in 2012. SFI Research Centres link scientists and engineers in partnerships across academia and industry to address crucial research questions, foster the development of new and existing Irish-based technology companies, attract industry that could make an important contribution to Ireland and its economy, and expand educational and career opportunities in Ireland in science and engineering.
The Technology Centres Programme is a Government-funded initiative delivered jointly by Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland to develop the innovation and R&D capabilities of companies in Ireland. The programme aims to introduce companies to the research expertise in Irish Higher Education Institutes with the aim of generating innovative technologies leading to job creation. These centres are collaborative entities established and led by industry. They are resourced by highly qualified researchers associated with research institutions who are empowered to undertake market focused strategic R&D for the benefit of industry.
Enterprise Ireland’s Technology Gateway Programme (www.technologygateway.ie) is an established nationwide network of 12 industry focused Gateways based in the Institutes of Technology. Each Gateway delivers technology solutions for industry through innovative collaborative projects The Technology Gateways have a proven track record of working with industry and act as open access points for industry of all sizes but in particular high potential start-up companies and Small and Medium Enterprises.
