MedTech Strategist Innovation Summit DUBLIN 2018 cordially invites our paid attendees to arrive into Dublin a day early to attend a special complimentary pre-conference reception, hosted by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and Trinity College Dublin (TCD), being held the evening of Monday, the 16th of April.
Being held at the beautiful RCSI building beside St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin, within a short walking distance to The Shelbourne Hotel, the event will start with a Wine and Canapes Reception at 6 pm. You will then enjoy a series of talks from leading industry expert speakers in the field which will be followed by a Panel Session representing clinicians, industry experts and medical device innovators. The evening will end with a further opportunity to network with your medtech industry and clinician peers.

Keynote Speaker
Johnny Walker is an Australian-trained clinically active Dublin-based Interventional Radiologist and international serial Medical entrepreneur. In 1995 Johnny founded “Imaging the South” (www.imagingthesouth.com.au) which evolved into Global Diagnostics (www.globaldiagnostics.ie) a disruptive innovative international Tele-Radiology enterprise. Johnny successfully exited Global Diagnostics through an MBO in 2012 with 350 staff & Group revenues of €35M. Johnny has since launched Health Founders (www.healthfounders.com) an international aggregator of innovative thinkers and exponential technologies focused on disrupting the current doctor-centric hospital-focused healthcare ecosystem for the better, by changing the focus of care to the Home. Their initial offering is “Jinga Life” a mobile, digital, connected, cloud-hosted, 24/7 home-based personalised Family Electronic Health Record.

Padraig McAuliffe
Padraig is CSO of SelfSense Technologies. SelfSense Technologies was founded in 2015 by a team of researchers from the Dublin Dental School and AMBER research centre in Trinity College Dublin. Padraig invented SmartSplint and has been the driving force and promoter since its inception, along with an experienced commercial and technical team. As a specialist in advanced restorative dentistry (Prosthodontist) with 15 years’ experience in dental practice, he is intimately familiar with the challenges facing dentists in managing the 1 billion patients globally who suffer from bruxism (tooth grinding). His research and usage of SmartSplint has led to key insights about the condition that will revolutionise how this very poorly understood condition is managed
Bronwyn Brophy
As Vice President of Medtronic’s Early Technology division, Bronwyn plays a key role in Mergers and Acquisitions advising on potential scale up time and commercialisation of early stage technologies. Prior to joining Medtronic Bronwyn spent 16 years working for Covidien and Johnson & Johnson in a variety of senior management positions. Bronwyn holds a B.A. in International Marketing & Languages and an MBA from DCU. She was the recipient of a number of awards including “One of 25 Most Powerful Women in Ireland” for three years in a row by the WXN Women’s Leadership network. She also appeared in the Sunday Independent’s list of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” in 2015 and 2016. She is a Director of Medtronic Ireland and a Director and Trustee of the charity Half Time Talk.
Bruce Murphy
Associate Professor Bruce Murphy runs the medical device design laboratory at Trinity’s Centre for Bioengineering. He has over 15 years’ experience in the field of medical device design, and has raised over €7m in grant funding for medical device design projects from Enterprise Ireland, SFI and the European Commission. To date there is one successful spin-out from the laboratory (Proverum) and he has licensed technology on three occasions to third parties.
Fergal O Brien
Fergal is Professor of Bioengineering & Regenerative Medicine and Head of the Tissue Engineering Research Group in RCSI. He is also Deputy Director of the SFI-funded Advanced Materials and Bioengineering Research Centre. Fergal has over 180 journal articles, filed 11 patents/disclosures and engaged in numerous industry collaborations including co-founding SurgaColl Technologies. SurgaColl’s innovative products CondroColl and HydroxyColl are based on a suite of common-platform technologies developed by the Tissue Engineering Research Group at the RCSI since its foundation in 2004. These technologies offer product opportunities immediately in the field of bone and cartilage tissue regeneration and further potential for a growing product portfolio in the future.
John Thorthon
Dr. John Thornton is a consultant diagnostic and interventional neuroradiologist in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. He completed training in neuroradiology in University of Illinois at Chicago and Northwestern University in Chicago. He has a special interest in neurovascular imaging and endovascular intervention for cerebral aneurysms, AVMs, vascular stenosis and acute ischaemic stroke. He is currently the clinical lead for stroke in Beaumont Hospital. He was the co-principal investigator for the ESCAPE (Endovascular Treatment for Small Core and Anterior Circulation Proximal occlusion with Emphasis on minimizing CT to recanalization times) trial in Ireland. This was a landmark study which will transform stroke treatment with global impact. John has also experience in advising a number of startup companies.
