The global challenges facing the Irish food sector, and emerging trends in consumer behaviour in key markets, require continuous monitoring. Aimed at food company CEOs, R&D managers, industry strategists, leading farmers and their representatives, agri-food researchers, and policy makers, the purpose of this conference is to examine key consumer trends, explore relevant scientific developments, evaluate their potential impact and discuss potential responses and opportunities for the sector. Themes to be addressed include alternative protein sources, trends in consumer food choice and purchase behaviour, the influence of environmental concerns on buyer and consumer behaviour, the link between nutrition and the environment and the impact of the microbiome on human health.

This one-day conference, jointly organised by Bord Bia and Teagasc, will gather
representatives from industry, research, farmers, government and public sector
agencies, and others who are concerned with the future direction of the Irish food
industry. It will feature presentations on the results of a market-based research
undertaken by Bord Bia, scientific research undertaken by Teagasc and invited
international speakers. An external moderator will chair a panel discussion that will reflect on these presentations to identify future implications for the Irish food
industry. Finally, the conference will provide a forum to discuss and debate actions that will be critical to ensuring a competitive food industry for the future. An agenda will be circulated in the coming weeks along with details of how to
register.
