TUS Limerick

Our mission in the development function of TUS Limerick is to actively engage with organisations who need our support and with those who care about LIT, our community, the city and region where we reside and to provide these organisations with opportunities to enhance our active learning, teaching, research, enterprise and engagement programmes.

This engagement and partnership approach helps TUS Limerick undergraduate schools and departments provide a leading educational experience for our learners.

The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) is the specialist arm of the Graduate Studies and Research Office (GRO) which aims to develop and facilitate innovation across the institute. The primary function of the TTO is to enable the commercialisation of the institute’s expertise and innovation. We do this by:

  • Supporting principal investigators to develop and grow research activity within dedicated research centres and groups
  • Strengthening research through contact with local, national and international industry partners
  • Helping to identify and develop intellectual property across the institute by working closely with academic staff, postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers

Our collaborative approach can be seen in the institutional co-operation that already exists between TUS Limerick and partner colleges, and in the joint actions of Limerick City and County Councils, the Higher Education organisations in the area, to promote an integrated approach to investment in the city’s future.

Collaboration also lies at the heart of TUS Limerick's enterprise development activity and its unique Enterprise Ladder, through which our Enterprise Development and Business Liaison Manager Gillian Barry works closely with Enterprise Ireland, IDA, City and County Enterprise Boards, the Chambers of Commerce and our own academic business specialists to facilitate the establishment and development of enterprises within the region.

Our research activity which is managed by our Head of Research and Technology Transfer Dr. Siobhan Moane and our development projects which are managed by Ciaran Lynch our Development Manager, generate substantial investment from abroad and involve many international and Irish partners as well as close cooperation with the academic staff of TUS Limerick.

Finally, the TUS Limerick Thought Leadership Group and Friends of TUS Limerick are managed by Mr. Kieran MacSweeney. This group assists our team in developing a long term, strategic and objective view and in developing relationships and networks to assist in fundraising and income diversification so that TUS Limerick can play a key role in revitalising Limerick and the region.
